Case study: the big creative clear-up
Primary school children in Northampton have encouraged people to think of creative ways to get people clearing up their litter
Aims
Primary aim:
Survey at least 10 people in the local community to find out whether litter is a problem in the area and run a community event to raise awareness about litter. This will be done in the summer term.
Secondary aim:
Get all pupils at school putting their rubbish in the bins
Tasks
Help from friends
- Speak to the school council about designing a questionnaire about litter
- Work out how we could get to speak to people in the community like elderly people and shop keepers
- Plan a competition for all pupils to come up with creative responses to litter in school.
- Get school council to plan and organise a community event.
Help from adults
- Speak to local businesses and residents to ask them whether they can do this questionnaire.
- Speak to Head Teacher, governors and School Council Link Teacher to get their help arranging community event
Publicity
Put posters up to advertise the community event
Publicity
Invite the local gazette to the school to take photos of the community event
Venue
- Arrange a Saturday in June when we can use the school hall for the community event.
- Make sure there are lots of art materials available for people to use – paints, pens, pencils, paper etc.
Permission
- Permission from Head Teacher to do a questionnaire with local residents and shop keepers
- Permission from shop-keepers and residents to participate in questionnaire.
- Permission from Head Teacher to run a community event
